‘I see no reason to keep silent about my enjoyment of the sound of my own voice as I work’ – Muriel Spark

From Nan Shepherd to Val McDermid, Willa Muir to Janice Galloway, Scotland has a long history of women writers who have enthralled us with tales of bold girls and plucky quines. In this relaxed reading and discussion session, Jess Orr will share short stories and poems from audacious women who will be celebrated later this year at the Glasgow Women’s Library, including a fearless performer from Edinburgh’s Cowgate and a forgotten poet from Nairn, as well as Muriel Spark herself, whose centenary it is this year. Feel free to sit and listen or read aloud, give your ideas or just absorb what others say.
